GGreat value June 26, 2008 Svetlana Beliaeva This card runs games like resident evil 4 and san andreas at one generation ahead so it's defenatly worth the money, and the best part it doesn require alot of watts :) My HP 7580 has only 300 or 350 i forgot that cars was perfect but now scinse games like GRID and 3d generation engine i need to upgrade, ATI all the way :)
tremenda tarjeta de video February 6, 2008 Luis Enrique Yi Castañeda (Maracaibo, Venezuela) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
antes tenia una 5200 de 128 mb pero esta de verdad que es 1000 veces mejor, los reflejos y texturas son imprecionantes, el agua parece de verdad !!!
Works great, easy install February 1, 2008 Zig28 (Maryland, United States) I bought the X1650 Pro PCI-E card to upgrade the standard 128mb ATI Radeon X300 PCI-E card that came with my 3 year old Dell Dimension 8400. I went with ATI because I had good luck with the original and I really like the ATI Control Center that you can download for free that controls all the aspects of the video card.
I got a great deal on the X1650 Pro from one of the Amazon sellers and it arrived very fast and in perfect condition. I was very hesitant to install the new card because it seems like every time I do something like this on the computer I run into problems.
But I followed the simple instructions that came with the card from ATI and no problem at all. Of course, I did a complete disk copy/image backup first -- actually, I did 2 of them on 2 separate external hard drives, just to make sure!
I also did a Windows XP system point creation before the install, which I highly recommend before doing any maintenance on your computer. Popped the old card out, put the new one in, inserted the CD that came with the card and it went through about 6 different automated installation processes. I rebooted as instructed and there it was!
The upside is that some of the screens pop up a bit faster, and it makes a huge difference with Adobe Premier Elements for editing videos. Huge difference! (The CPU is a Pentium 4, 3.0 GHZ with 2 GB RAM and dual 7,200 RPM hard drives). The videos play immediately and the clarity and quality is so much better than before it's unreal. Not sure why this is -- Elements must not have liked the X300 card because I always had problems with it.
The downside is that the reason I bought the X1650 Pro was to speed up Photoshop, but the new card doesn't seem to have made much of a difference there. When I get a half-dozen or so 10 MP photos loaded in Photoshop, it is very slow when I move the photos around and the screen jumps as it refreshes after each move, it's like chug-chug-chug each time I drag a photo around.
Not sure what's up with that, so I think a RAM upgrade is called for, I have 2 extra slots so I'm going to add another 2 GB of RAM and see what happens. Yeah, I know, I'll end up spending enough to have upgraded the entire computer (or bought a Mac)!
But overall, I'm really pleased with the X1650 Pro, it's a big step from the X300 and the fast windows and big Premier Elements benefits are definitely worth it.
By the way, this card does not need an external power supply, it gets all its power from the PCI-E slot. And the fan is very quiet on mine - my computer now seems quieter than it was before, even though the X300 card does not have a fan. The case fan on the Dell 8400 is noisy anyway, but for some reason the fan on the X1650 Pro must counteract the noise of the case fan and the noise level overall has decreased slightly.

I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium on this machine that I recently upgraded my RAM with. (Now at 2GB) With this upgrade I went from a 3.8 to a 4.4 on the Rating option with Vista. My previous card as a X1300, it was good until I started getting into high graphic games like Quake 4, Halo 2, etc. I can run all my games at Ultra High on my monitor's native resolution (1440x900) and it runs like a dream.
The other reviewers said that it has a noisy stock fan - I disagree, mine's the quietest thing I've had. But yeah, it's worth the price - so if you want it GET IT!
Not tested as yet November 8, 2007 Jacob H. Reimer (Belize C. A.) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
I reside in a different country so I have not been able to test the product.
Yet it is definitely four times the amount of ram than with my old malfunctioning one. I'm really looking forward for better graphics after the installation of the X1650 in comparison of the X800GT.
